I am a bit of a runner. This doesn’t mean I’m good at running- it just means I do it.
My latest challenge is my most exciting – I’m currently in training for the New York Marathon. I am beside myself with both fear and excitement, and in planning mode for my makeup shopping once I arrive, but that’s another story.
Because I am in training I spend a lot of time running, and as there’s really not all much to do except put one foot in front of the other, I spend a lot of my running time people watching. Here’s what I’ve observed: Most people are uncomfortable when they workout. But it doesn’t have to be that way, with these quick tips to make your running routine easier.
• Always wear sunblock, even if it’s not really sunny. But don’t put any on your forehead. You’re more likely to get whiteheads and have it run in your eyes, plus, you don’t need it because you’ll be wearing a cap or visor. I like Neutrogena Ultra Sheer or Invisible Zinc.
• Don’t wear foundation. You will sweat. It will run. It will look blotchy. No one looks great when they run. Just rock the “glow”.
• If you are going to wear mascara go for a good waterproof one, otherwise it will end up down your face. For pricey try Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Custom Volume, cheaper I love my Covergirl LashBlast.
• I do this weird thing when I run- I lick my lips all the time- which can be really awkward when you are running past people. So I put on heaps of lip balm before I head out. One with a sunblock is best, but today I used some Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream, which I got as a sample- it smells yummy.
• Wear deodorant, because even if it’s cold you will sweat. I know I have mentioned it in previous blogs but I love Rexona Clinical Protection. I also have a spray deodorant if I am going out during the day or for a really long run.
• Tie your hair up. I find it a really good opportunity to put in a treatment. Slick it back into a ponytail and then throw on your cap.
• While not a makeup product the most important thing apart from good shoes it to get a really really good bra. Those babies need to be held firm. My more “endowed” running buddies swear by a sports bra with a crop top over the top.
• Finally the best beauty product of all for a runner is water. Drink it before run, mid run and after run.
